Common Name: Blue Joint Grass, Bluejoint

Sun to light shade, wet to medium moisture level, tolerates most soils except rocky, very strongly acid to slightly alkaline pH.  3-5 feet height, blooms in summer, purple flowers, spreads aggressively by rhizomes.

Native Region:  Only occurs in Carter and Unicoi counties

Cool season grass that occurs in wetlands in Tennessee.  This grass species frequently occurs in association with sedges and is a valuable species for wetlands restoration.  Stands up well in winter.
