Common Name: Two-leaved Toothwort, Crinkleroot

Part shade to shade, moderately wet to medium moisture level, humus rich soil, moderately to slightly acidic pH.    6-10 inches height, blooms in spring, white to pinkish flowers, spreads by rhizomes which are above ground in the humus layer.

Native Region:  Middle and East Tennessee

Carefree plant that forms extensive colonies with time.  Goes dormant after flowering in the spring and then returns in the fall when trees begin to drop their leaves.  Grows in woods but does not tolerate deep shade cast by evergreens.  Attracts butterflies.
