Full sun to light shade, wet to moderately wet moisture level, fertile soil, moderately acid to neutral pH. 1 -2 ½ feet height, spreads at a moderate rate by rhizomes and slowly by re-seeding.

Cool season. This is a fast-growing, wetland plant in Tennessee. Grows in a mound shape. Foliage may be less attractive in summer and benefits from supplemental watering. Attracts butterflies.
