Part to full shade, wet to moderately wet moisture level, adaptable to most soils except rocky, strongly acid to neutral pH.  1-2 feet height, spreads slowly by re-seeding and moderately fast by rhizomes.

Cool season.  Often abundant in bogs and coniferous swamps.
