Sun to shade, moderately wet to medium moisture level, tolerant of a wide range of soils except rocky, very strongly acid to neutral pH. 3 foot height, spreads slowly by re-seeding and by rhizomes.

Native Region: Scattered lightly statewide with greatest concentration in the Interior Low Plateaus
Cool season. Attractive sedge with interesting, bristly seedheads. This sedge has a widespread native range including most of the eastern half of North America. Found in wet woods, thickets, meadows and roadsides. Good for naturalizing.
