Common Name: Eastern Star Sedge, Straight-styled Wood Sedge

Dappled sunlight to medium shade, moderately wet to medium moisture level, rich loamy soil.  1-2 feet height.

Native Region:  Scattered very lightly statewide with a heavy concentration in the Cumberland Plateau

Cool season.  Very adaptable sedge that mixes well with ferns, Solomon’s Seal, Virginia Bluebells, Hostas, and Mayapples.  A medium small sedge that is rather ornamental with its dense tuft of slender leaves and star-like clusters of flowerheads.  Each clump will eventually form an 18 inch tall and 18 inch wide, highly ornamental mound.  Attracts birds.
