Common Name: Fen Star Sedge, Dioecious Sedge, Sterile Sedge

Full sun, wet to moderately wet moisture level, rich soil.  1 foot height.

Native Region:  Only occurs in Fentress County

Cool season.  Designated “Possibly Extirpated, Endangered” in Tennessee.  Only ccurs in calcareous fens.  (Calcareous fen is defined as a wetland characterized by an upwelling of calcium-rich groundwater that often harbors unique or rare vegetation.)  Identification of this species is usually very difficult and relies on technical morphological features.
