Common Name: Purple Love Grass

Full to part sun, dry moisture level, sandy soil, extremely acid to slightly alkaline pH.  1-2 feet height, blooms late summer into fall, red/purple flowers, spreads at a moderate rate by rhizomes and slowly by re-seeding

Grows low to the ground in dense tufts.  In late summer, the fine-textured stiff inflorescence appears like reddish purple clouds and eventually breaks off and floats around like a tumbleweed.  Can be weedy.
