Common Name:  Crested Iris, Dwarf Crested Iris

Morning sun with afternoon shade, medium to moderately dry moisture level, humusy soil, slightly acid to neutral pH.  3-6 inches height, blooms in spring, pale lavender/blue flowers, spreads by rhizomes.

Germination Code: L Requires 2-3 years to flower from seed.

Native Region: Statewide, especially in Middle and East Tennessee

Groundcover with showy flowers.  Forms dense colonies in optimum growing conditions. When in flower, a well developed bed is a spectacular drift of blue color.  Soils that are too rich encourage rank vegetative growth in this species.  Ordinary dryish soil is preferable.  Attracts hummingbirds and bees.
