Common Name:  Showy Evening Primrose 

Part to full shade, medium to moderately dry moisture level, rich sandy or loamy soil.  2-4 ft. height, blooms in fall, blue flowers, self-sows readily.Full to part sun, medium to moderately dry moisture level, tolerant of a wide range of soils including clay, moderately acid to neutral pH.  18-24 inches height, blooms spring to summer, pink flowers, spreads readily by both re-seeding and rhizomes.Part to full shade, medium to moderately dry moisture level, rich sandy or loamy soil.  2-4 ft. height, blooms in fall, blue flowers, self-sows readily.

Native Region:  Statewide but concentrated in southern part of Coastal Plain and in the Low Plateaus (Highland Rim and Central Basin)

Upright to sprawling perennial which spreads to form extensive colonies.  Low maintenance plant with showy flowers.  Best grown in informal areas where plants can spread without intruding on other plants.  Flowers open in evening and remain open to late morning (or all day if cloudy). Seed capsules attract birds, especially finches.
