Full to part sun, medium to moderately dry moisture level, best grown in average sandy or rocky soil (not rich), moderately to slightly acid pH.  5-6 feet height, blooms in fall, spreads by rhizomes.

Warm season.  Grows in damp woods, open areas, and field margins in the southeastern U.S.  Produces a large, rosy copper plume in the fall that fades to a silvery peach.  Somewhat coarse grass. Plants grown in rich soil usually need staking.
