Full sun, moderately wet to moderately dry moisture level, best in somewhat poor soil, moderately acid to nearly neutral pH.  6-10 inches height, blooms late spring into early summer, violet-blue flowers, re-seeds readily.

Best planted in drifts because individual plants are not very showy.  Each flower only lasts a few hours.  Plants become floppy and develop crown rot in rich soil and too much shade.  Not actually a grass but a member of the Iris Family.  Needs to be divided every 2-3 years to be kept vigorous.
