Part to full shade, moderately wet to moderately dry moisture level, rich soil, slightly acid pH. 12-18 inches height, blooms in spring, yellow flowers, readily self-seeds.

Desirable plant with showy flowers for eastern wildflower gardens. Much less aggressive than the introduced European species. Goes dormant in early summer if plants dry out.
