Full to part sun, moderately wet to moderately dry moisture level, sandy or clayey soil but not rocky, strongly acid to slightly alkaline pH. 1-3 feet height, blooms summer into fall, pink flowers, spreads aggressively by rhizomes and slowly by seed.

This plant can be weedy and invasive. Prefers shallow, submerged soils. Dense flower spikes make a nice cut flower. Attracts birds.
