Common Name:  Red Trillium, Purple Trillium, Stinking Benjamin

Needs ample sun in early spring and open shade in summer, medium moisture level, humus rich soil, moderately acid pH.  6-18 inches height, blooms in spring, maroon and possibly white or pink flowers.

Native Region:  Blue Ridge and Ridge and Valley provinces

The solitary nodding flower has an unpleasant odor.  Birds and mammals eat the berries.
