Common Name: Barren Strawberry, Appalachian Barren Strawberry

Full sun to part shade, medium to moderately dry moisture level, prefers humus-rich soil but tolerates a wide range of soils including clay, slightly acid pH.  4-8 inches height, blooms in spring, yellow flowers, spreads slowly by runner-like rhizomes.

Native Region: Scattered in eastern half of Tennessee

Although it resembles a strawberry plant, fruit is dry, not fleshy.  Best as an evergreen groundcover for small areas of the border.  Minimal maintenance required.  Best propagated by division.
